What can we offer you? 

Our ancient mill, now renovated to into a comfortable home, is situated in rural surroundings without being at all isolated. In front of the house and its gardens is a lane which takes you to the center of the
village, some 300m further on. And behind the house you just step into nature.

We propose you a choice of two formula:

Chambre d'Hôtes / Bed & Breakfast

A very spacious room, entrance from the garden, with two beds (a third one is possible) and a private bathroom. You will find there a TV, refrigerator and all you need to make you own tea and coffee. We will serve your breakfast either in your room or in the garden.

Gîte (Self catering apartment)

In the gîte, entance from the garden, there is a living room with a well equipped open-plan kitchen, TV and a radio/cd/usb set, two bedrooms with two beds and a bathroom. Outside you can sit in the garden and enjoy your meal as well. We let the gîte with one or two bedrooms.

Both the chambre d'hôtes and the gîte have their own entrance at ground level at the backside of the house. In the garden, you can take a sunbath or sit in the shadow or at the swimming pool.

Sainte Alvère is a small village in the Périgord Noir, the Dordogne region. The Périgord is well known for its beautiful scenery, the picturesque villages, wonderful castles, prehistoric sites, delicious food and so much more...(See maps)
Every day there are flights from different airports in England to Bergerac, 25 km from Sainte Alvère.

The village is situated in a peaceful part of the Périgord amidst hills and valleys, forests and fields yet not far away from many of the fascinating places to visit.


What can you find in and around Sainte Alvère?

The tranquil village of Sainte Alvère is an ideal place to stay. Although small, the village has everything you need. There is a well stocked supermarket, good baker's shops, a bar-tabac and a restaurant. On Mondays there is a market with lots of local products. More restaurants are in the villages nearby. In the summer there are special events, such as a local fete, an antique and bric a brac fair and  nocturnal markets. In the nearby towns and villages there are many markets, fairs, festivals etc. as well.

The region is ideal if you are looking for an active holiday. There are endless opportunities for walking, horse-riding and cycling. The clear water of the Dordogne river (within easy reach of Sainte Alvère) is wonderful for swimming and there are lots of places on both the Dordogne and the Vézère where canoes and kayaks can be hired. Or if you prefer to take it easy, you can sunbathe on the pleasant river beaches. There are several golf courses in the neighborhood.

The region is famous for its prehistoric sites. Lascaux and Les Eyzies de Tayac are among the most well known of these.

You can also visit the numerous castles and Romanesque churches and the medieval towns such as Sarlat. Périgueux and Bergerac are also well worth a trip. The centers of these towns have been beautifully restored and they welcome visitors. In summer there are many cultural events. Every day of the week, there are markets within easy reach, selling fresh local produce as well as a range of other goods.
